Petrus

One Saturday a month, the Carmelite Sisters of the Most Sacred Heart host a PETRUS, an evening of worship and discussion for teens (ages 13-19). PETRUS is held at the St. Joseph's Center in Alhambra. For those who haven't been, I know it sounds far but it's really not. It starts at 6pm with praise and worship. There is a speaker, small group discussions, and then the band leads everyone in Adoration. These events usually draw about 50-60 teens from various churches. Once or twice a year Rock S.A.L.T. is the featured band.

Here is general info on Petrus: http://www.saintjoecenter.com/petrus.html

Rock S.A.L.T.

Rock S.A.L.T. is the band that plays at the Life Teen Mass at St. Augustine's on Sundays at 5 pm. They have a CD: "RHYTHMS OF GRACE".

What is LIFE TEEN?

At the weekly LIFE TEEN Mass, teens, their families, and members of the St. Augustine community experience the depths of God's love through the WOrd, the community, and the Eucharist. Relevant preaching and quality music bring the Catholic Mass to life.

St. Augustine Church in Culver City began a LIFE TEEN program as part of the youth ministry program in 1996. With the support of a strong and growing music ministry that caters to teens, the program has flourished ever since. Because of the dedication and commitment of numerous volunteers (youth ministers, CORE Team members, LIFE suppport members, and music ministers), St. Augustine's LIFE TEEN program has reached out to hundreds of teens throughout its 10+ year existence.

Following Mass, there are LIFE nights (beginning February 4, 2007). At LIFE Night, trained youth ministers and CORE members lead the teens deeper into their Catholic faith in the LIFE Night experience. As a faith community, the teens grow in understanding of what it means to be young and Catholic in the new millennium. The teens are affirmed, educated, and challenged to live the Gospel.

LIFE TEEN began in 1985 at St. Timothy's Catholic Community in Mesa, Arizona. Fr. Dale Fushek, pastor, got together with a youth minister, Phil Baniewicz, and music minister Tom Booth, to get things started. The first night, over 150 teenagers gathered with the community to celebrate Mass. Afterwards, most of the teens stayed for pizza and prayer while they learned more about Jesus Christ.

In 1995, Pope John Paul II bestowed his Papal blessing uopn the LIFE TEEN Program. Cardinal George, Archbishop of Chicago, has given his personal endorsement as well.

What started out as a youth group at St. Timothy's in Arizona has grown into the most prolific youth ministry in the Catholic Church. Every Sunday 120,000 teenagers attend a LIFE TEEN Mass. There are currently over 960 active programs stretching around the globe in twenty countries.

What is The EDGE?

The EDGE is a Catholic middle school youth ministry for early adolescents in grades six, seven, and eight. The EDGE is designed to meet the educational, spiritual, emotional, and social needs of young adolescents.

Here's the schedule for The EDGE at St. Augustine.

What is CORE or CORE Team?

CORE or the CORE Team is a trained and dedicated group of adults that plan, supervise, and provide role models for teenagers. Everyone has a baptismal call to serve and the CORE team are responding to that call by volunteering in the LIFETEEN youth ministry program. If you are interested in joining CORE or can help out in any way, please call or email.
